What is a comeback, what does it really mean to comeback, and how far do you need to have gone before you can call your return a comeback. How high do you need to be, before you can turn around, and nose dive straight down till you hit rock bottom. How deep is rock bottom? Are we talking Mickey Rourke rock bottom? And how big is the comeback? Are we talking Elvis 77 comeback or we just talking you never giving up, always having faith in yourself, faith in your belief that you are never going to give up, ever. There are many comeback stories, some greater than others due to what was lost before the rot was dug out and patched up, and the good ship put back to sea. There are many reasons we have these great comeback stories as there are many reasons why we climb so high to fall so far. What goes up, high, will come crashing down low, and if survive, then pull itself from long forgotten ashes to slowly build and rise again higher in the knowledge on what to avoid on the way up. That path is littered with trash on every corner waiting for the light or dark of a person to be exposed and pounced upon. The uppers and downers that ride that rocket clinging to its coattails as it explodes on up into the stars are the same who walk over its smouldering corpse with their coffers stuffed to the hilt. We are the strong, bold, ignorant, precious, lovers who will die for one another on Tuesday and kill each other on Wednesday. And when you up you up and when you down then you are out, normally. Unless you are the few who are able to stand at the gates of hell and realise the handle is too hot, the price to dear and the view not near as beautiful as it once was. Back is the road that is long and hard and many will fall by the side but the few who get back on top are the few who have been there before and know the hard work it takes to get back to where they feel they belong. Nothing is easy in this life, but if you want to be on top, then you got to know how far down the bottom is before you hit rock. We have all had comebacks, we have all been down, but the greatest comebacks are the ones who throw away the lives most of us can only ever dream of living. We don’t see how hard they had to work, we don’t see what they needed to do to get up there and so deservedly so, we just see them up there and watch, admirably before we scorn, condescendingly, as they fall. We will never know what sacrifices it took to get so high, fall back down, besides, maybe lower, before picking up and going all the way back to the top and giving every one of us a feel good feeling, so high, that we can finally see, and relate, to where they were and what they needed to do to get back to the top and complete their comeback.
